CRIME: Fake Estate Agent Remanded In Ogun Prison Over N400,000 Fraud

Atanda Adenekan, a 45-year-old man, who posed as an estate agent, and allegedly defrauded some people of N400,000, was on Thursday remanded in Abeokuta Prisons.

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling said the accused should remain behind bars until next date of adjournment when the bail application would be considered.

Adenekan, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and impersonation.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Moshood Hammed, had earlier told the court the accused committed the offences sometime in March at 400 p.m. at Iyana-Onifaji in Asero area of Abeokuta.

Hammed said the accused defrauded two men — Mr Shakirudeen Akintunde and Mr Segun Olunade — of N200, 000 each under the pretext of selling a plot of land to them at Apete area of the city.

The prosecutor said the accused had been posing as a land agent to defraud innocent buyers.

The offences, Hammed said, contravened Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mr Martins Akinyemi, adjourned the case to Oct. 21. (NAN)
