No fewer than 10 teenage girls have reportedly lost their lives in a boat mishap that occurred in Lanjan River in Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano State.
This was made known on Wednesday by the State Emergency Service Agency who revealed that two of the teenage girls were still missing, BBC Hausa reports.

Speaking the tragedy, Abdullahi Aminu, the state SEMA Director, said the commercial boat which was fully loaded with passengers capsized with only the captain making it out alive.
“We went to the scene and 10 bodies of the girls were recovered while two others remain missing, we are still searching for the remaining two,” Aminu said.
The agency director further revealed that the boat was conveying the young girls, aged between 8 and 14, across the river to the market on Monday when the incident happened.

He attributed the tragedy to a rainstorm saying; “the operator of the boat swam to safety but was unable to save any of the girls in the turbulent water.”
Meanwhile, no fewer than 10 people reportedly lost their lives in a boat mishap which occurred in Ebe village, Lokoja local government area of kogi State on August 27.
Also, at least four women drowned in a river as a result of a boat mishap that occurred in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
