Liftware Spoon
A spoon that steadies tremors for people with Parkinson’s is the latest invention that Google has brought to market.
The battery-powered utensil uses hundreds of algorithms to sense motion, detect whether the motion is tremor, and then stabilise itself when shaken by an unsteady hand.
It was the subject of a small validation trialpresented at last year’s annual meeting American Academy of Neurology, which found it reduced shaking by 76% when used by people with Parkinson’s or with essential tremors.
"We want to help people in their daily lives today and hopefully increase understanding of disease in the long run," Google representative Katelin Jabbari said.
Called the Liftware Spoon, the device was developed by a small tech start-up that was acquired by Google in September.
