ANAMBRA STATE POLICE COMMAND...
An Applause to the Nigerian Police Force Anambra State Command.....and a call to checkmate some few unprofessional excesses.
Following an unfortunate incite in Anambra State Friday 20th October, 2017 at a popular Tarzan Junction in Onitsha Anambra State involving an officer attached to the command and a shooting incident which some political took advantage of to throw political punches and create political tension to the detriment of PEACE of the state.
If not for the quick response by the Command by the release of a Press Statement to the real fact of the incident, the political propaganda would have persisted for some days. That prompt Press Statement quenched lots of fear and doubts in the mind and heart of the people of the state especially those in Onitsha.
Just few minutes after the ugly incident, some gullible and gluttonous political jobbers in the state took to the social media to blow up the polity and blew the incident out of proportion, pointing accusing finger to a political party with lots of lies and cooked- story too far off from the real deal.
I honestly must give it to the Nigerian Police Anambra State Command for living up to their responsibility despite the challenges and pressure.
Feeling appreciated is one of the most important needs that people desire. When you share with some one your appreciation and gratitude they will not forget you and will not seize to do more good.
That timely Press Statement on that highly political atmospheric state watered down the political war on the social media between two political party loyalists in the state. Kudos NPF Anambra State under the watch of CP Garba Baba Umar psc.
Police are the main guardian of the people, they are given extensive power to protect all citizens, to bring offenders to Justice and to uphold human dignity in the society. These powers, regulated by law establishing the force, to curtail and check their excesses in the discharge of their fundamental duties.
Despite so many societal sentiments and negative stigma against the Nigerian Police Force, I still give great kudos to the officers and men of the force especially here in Anambra State. No institution is completely perfect in all entirely, I think the society need to do more in helping and assisting the Police live up to their fundamental responsibility.
Am sure some number of persons will find reasons to disagree and throw aspersions on Officers and men of the Police Force, but let me quickly remind those few that when you allow sensationalism and biased sentiments cloud your sense of reasoning and judgement, perfection or mere appreciate of little good becomes a mirage. No valid change can take place in the society until there is a radical change of ATTITUDE by a greater section of the society The public and The people (TPTP therapy).
Remember, the greatest defeat to objectivity is prejudice, yes. The public really need to pipe low on the perceived prejudice against the men and officers of the Police Force. The age long prehistoric prejudice has never, will never and can never change anything.
When there is a serious security incident like that of the 20/10/2017 incident at Tarzan Junction Onitsha, the appropriate authorities should be allowed to do their job irrespective of any emotional or sentimental tension. Most times the public are too quick to throw and heat up the polity with wrong and negative sentiments thereby obstructing professionalism. Incident scenes require the most professional handling to ascertain the true cause of events. Uneasy display of heightened emotions and mob actions at the incident of an event by some gullible and uninformed members of the public especially against the Police has done more harm than good. Just singular and irresponsible act, ends up thwarting Justice by deviating attention, destroying and disturbing proper investigation.
Believe it or not, like it or not, Justice begins with the Police. Yes, this is simple because the Department of Justice (The Court) rely heavily on Police investigations to arrive at the very possible justifiable decision in any case of security breach or any such related issues before it. Now, for a society were there is frequent display of hostility and bitter aspersions and attacks on the image of the Police and some chronic allegations of corruption, intimidation and bias, the Police officers are most tines caught between the harsh world of operational tactics and ethical responsibility especially in the face of severe threat to their own fundamental privileges in the line of duty. What a hostile and horrible time to answer a Police officer. You can imagine the state of mind the officer/officers under this conditions find themselves. Such a state of dilemma reminds me of the popular saying - "Loyalty is neither a virtue nor a vice; the value we assign it is situational, based on facts and circumstances of the occasion at hand".
In a sane and ideal society, the Police are the peoples best friends. Being the people's protector, the Police is often considered the first in line for Justice, hence utmost show of love and cooperation to Officers of the Force in assistance to the discharge of their social and constitutional obligations.
Anywhere around the world, Justice begins with the Police and until we get this inserted into our value system, there may not be any radical miracle. We all share in the blame.
In conclusion, may I humbly appeal to the Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command, to put a final icing on the cake by ensuring that proper and detailed investigation is launched into the unfortunate incident at the Tarzan Junction, Onitsha on the 201/10/2017 and culprits brought to book.
Also, the Command should please consider a regular training and retraining sessions for officers and men of the Command especially those at the rank and files to keep them consciously abreast of the new and modern professional ethics and requirements. "Anybody who stops learning is old and outdated whether at 10years, 20years or 80 years".
Thank you and keep up the good job.
