The 25 anniversary of the WORLD WATER DAY 2018 witnessed lots of activities/sensitization/awareness campaigns and walk for Water, as PRINCE OSISIOMA FOUNDATION took its sensitization tour to schools across the State on March 22, to raise awareness on the issues and importance of clean and safe water and also proffer solution to water challenges amongst some remote rural communities in the country.
Speaking at the event, the CEO PRINCE OSISIOMA FOUNDATION - Prince Onyeka Eze who was represented by Comrade Obitube Nnaemeka said, "the access and availability of clean and safe water in Nigeria are huge issues that should not be left in the hands of government alone.
It is worrisome that 43% of citizens in a country like Nigeria still lack access to clean and safe water and perhaps this has contributed to the outbreak of water related diseases in the country and this is totally unacceptable".
Prince Onyeka Eze noted with dismay the level of outbreak of water borne diseases in the country especially the recent case at College of Education, Kangere, Bauchi State where 19 students were admitted following the outbreak of cholera in the state. Prince Onyeka called on government at all levels, civil society organizations and corporate bodies to look into assisting and providing schools with clean and safe sources of water to guarantee the health of our younger generation.
In conclusion, Prince Eze explained that the public sensitization tour to schools by PRINCE OSISIOMA FOUNDATION was targeted at the students in colleges and women in rural communities to help drive home the aim United Nations mapped out this day and to imbibe on the students the need for behavioural change in attitude and search for better accessibility in applying nature-based solution to water challenges across the globe.
Rev. Fr. Chinonso Okoye manager St. Michael's Secondary School Nimo thanked PRINCE OSISIOMA FOUNDATION for demonstrating the zeal in assisting the United Nations in championing this great course.
Also, Ven. Nnamdi Emendu PhD the principal Bishop Crowther Seminary Awka gave kudos to PRINCE OSISIOMA FOUNDATION and charged the foundation to do more in getting government clamp down on some fake, unregistered and illegal water bottling companies in the country and some vendors of fake water treatment chemicals in the market, he concluded.
