Prison Decongestion: ANAMBRA STATE CHIEF JUDGE DISCHARGES 11 INMATES, GRANTS 4 BAIL...

2020 Anambra State Jail Delivery: CJ Anyachebelu Grants Four More Inmates Bail, Discharges Eleven Others As 2020 Jail Delivery Ends In Amawbia Correctional Centre.

The Anambra state Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu has discharged eleven inmates and granted bail to four others at the Amawbia Correctional Centre to mark the end of this year's jail delivery exercise.

The inmates were charged for various degrees of crime ranging from rape, murder, armed robbery, to kidnapping.

During the jail delivery, it was observed that some of the inmates have been in the Correctional centre for four years and above without appearing to any court of law.

In a remark, Justice Anyachebelu said the annual jail delivery exercise is necessary as it goes a long way in decongesting Correctional centres in the state, and as well gives justice to inmates who have been unlawfully remanded in the centres.

CJ Anyachebelu asked management of all Correctional centres in the state to do the needful to ensure that all that were granted bail during the exercise are released.

Cases handled by the Chief Judge during the jail delivery exercise were serious health challenges, juvenile, among others.
