The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) under the able leadership of His Youthfulness Comrade Chibuzor Okaa (Pharm) today join the World Health Organization (WHO) and other International Organizations and agencies in the campaign against Tobacco consumption in the World.
The event which was organized at MayRoses Hotel Amawbia in conjunction with OBI OCHIJE FOUNDATION (O.O.F) was targeted at sensitization of the youths against the Dangers of tobacco smoking as statistics provided by the Resources person from the National Orientation Agency (NOA) states that 55% of Tobacco consumers across the world are within the age brackets of 16 - 55 years which are active Youth ages and the casualty rates are also higher within same age brackets which should be a cause of serious concerns for the younger generation. This challenge is not curbed will continue increasing and the dangers to the society abound.
World Health Organization representative Miss Ugochi Okoroafor dealt excessively on the theme of this years World_No_Tobacco_Day and the message from World Health Organization how various plans and strategies on curbing the challenges. She also charged the Youth Council to continue the sensitization campaign as the youths are the most culpable to this regards as many tobacco consumers are victims of peer pressure and juvenile deliquescence. A partnership agreement with sealed between the National Youth Council of Nigeria ANAMBRA State Chapter and the World Health Organization (WHO) through the representative. Miss Okorafor promised to take the report of the campaign today back to the office and charged the Council not to relent in the campaign as the campaign/sensitization is a continuous one. She noted that the Organization will from time to time request for Official feedback and reports from various campaign outreach by the Council in the state. The partnership deal will see more than 18 Youths from the State sponsored on a free Training and Employment opportunities from the World Health Organization and even more as the programme will be done in badges with reports from the campaign activities of the council against tobacco consumption.
The Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria Anambra State Chapter Comrade Chibuzor Okaa (Pharm) thanked in a special the Chairman OBI OCHIJE FOUNDATION (O.O.F) Chief Obi Ochije (Ochije Awka) for the great opportunity and partnership with the Youth Council in the State. The chairman extolled the contributions of the Foundation towards youth development in the state and promised to work more closely with the foundation and other good spirited organizations and individuals towards building and development of the youth constituency in the State. The Chairman also thanked World Health Organization for their presence and partnership deal and promised to keep faith with the Council's own part of the deal. The chairman thanked the youths from all local government in attendance despite the short notice and promised that his administration will never lose focus of the fact that more work needed to be done in building a better and more formidable Council in the state. He assured Anambra Youths that his administration is wining the war already in the harmonization and unity accord amongst other aggrieved factions as his administration has extended its Peace tentacles to all waring factions and great positive reports have been received. The chairman thanked the Commissioner of Youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development in the State Dr. (Bar.) Uju Nwogu for her support and motherly over sight to the council and its activities.
The representative of the Chairman OBI OCHIJE FOUNDATION (O.O.F) Mr. Emenike thanked the Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) for his effort in the state and promised to take the reports of today's events back to the Chairman Ochije Foundation. He advised the youths to shun violence especially as election is around the corner. He urged the youths to go for their PVC which is their right to elect the next Governor of Anambra state. He promised that the foundation will always keep supporting good course towards the building of a better ANAMBRA State.
