PRESS RELEASE:
ANAMBRA POLICE COMMAND.
In our further stem determination in ensuring a safer and secured State against any atom of criminality and disorder, the Police Command calls on Ndi Anambra and all visitors to the state especially road users and the general public to be very cautious while on the road, either as a traveler or driver.
The Police Command frowns at the level of security and safety recklessness of some road users in the state. This is totally unacceptable as the command is fully out to clamp down on offenders both on and off the road.
The commissioner of police CP Garba Baba Umar has directed all DPOs and DTOs of all Division's in the State to clear off the road all abandoned vehicles/trucks within their divisional axis and charge offenders accordingly.
The CP lamented following the unfortunate report of a fatal Accident Saturday 1st of July 2017 at about 7:45pm involving:
* A Jetta Saloon Car with REG No: AU 75 WER.
* The driver of the Jetta Saloon Car one Mr Linus Ohadumekwe - male - aged 60years of Umubazu Uli and four other occupants lost their life's to the tragic incident.
* The 4 occupants in the Jetta Saloon car:
1. Basil Ohadumekwu - male- 57years.
2. Chimuanya Ohadumekwu male 22years.
3. Joy Ohadumekwu - female- 20years.
4. Little Divine Michael - male- 2years.
The victims while returning from a wedding ceremony on the aforementioned date and day ran into a stationary heavy duty truck with REG No: SMK 84 XYX packed along the road after Uli Centre along Onitsha/Owerri Express road.
This tragic incident is rather unfortunate, sad and avoidable if people were very safety and security conscious especially on the roads with very busy traffic situations.
The command henceforth will devise stringent measures in clamping down on traffic offenders in the state to avoid future occurrence of such tragic incidents.
The CP calls on all road users in the state to be very safety conscious while driving and adhere strictly to safety rules.
The CP on behalf of the Command console the family of the victims and asks the Good Lord to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Command warns seriously against people abandoning their spoilt vehicles on the road stating that henceforth, such act will be handled strictly and stringent measures. The Command also advises road uses to always avoid carelessness and always call the driver to order when he/she over speeds. Also drivers are warned to be very cautious driving under rain or after rain and maintain a reasonable concentration on the road.
The importance of triangular caution for broken down vehicles on the road can never be over stressed as road users are advised to always put it to good use when ever their car breaks down to alert other road users.
The Command advises Ndi Anambra to remain security and safety conscious and obey traffic laws and signs. We all must play our roles as good citizens of the state in guarantying a secured and safer ANAMBRA state.
