PRESS RELEASE:
ANAMBRA POLICE COMMAND.
In our determination in ensuring a safer and secured State against any atom of criminality and disorder, the Police Command calls on Ndi Anambra and all visitors to the state especially road users and the general public to be very cautious while on the road, either as passengers or drivers.
The Police Command frowns at the level of recklessness of some road users in the state. This is totally unacceptable as the command is fully out to clamp down on offenders.
The commissioner of police CP Garba Baba Umar has directed all DPOs and DTOs of all Divisions in the State to clear off the road of all abandoned broke down Car/trucks within their jurisdiction and charge offenders accordingly.
The CP lamented the unfortunate report of a fatal Accident Saturday 1st of July 2017 at about 7:45pm involving:,
* A Jetta Saloon Car that rammed into a broken down heavy duty truck parked along the road after Uli Centre along Onisha/ Owerri Express road. A family of four occupants in the Jetta saloon car lost their lives to the tragic incident. Sad to mention, the victims were returning from a wedding ceremony
This tragic incident is rather unfortunate, sad and avoidable.
The command henceforth will devise stringent measures in clamping down on traffic offenders in the state to avoid future occurrence of such tragic incidents.
The CP calls on all road users in the state to be very conscious while driving and adhere strictly to safety rules.
The CP on behalf of the Command console the family of the victims and asks the Good Lord to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Command warns seriously against people abandoning their broken down vehicles on the road stating that henceforth, the Command will apply full wrath of the law. We also advises road users to always avoid carelessness and always call the driver to order when he/she over speeds. Also drivers are warned to be very cautious driving under rain or after rain and maintain a reasonable concentration on the road.
The importance of triangular caution for broken down vehicles on the road can never be over stressed as road users are advised to always put it to good use when ever their car breaks down to alert other road users.
The Command advises Ndi Anambra to remain security and safety conscious and obey traffic laws and signs. We all must play our roles as good citizens of the state in guarantying a secured and safer ANAMBRA state.
