Workshop on election coverage and reporting holds in Awka
The Management of the Anambra Broadcasting Service has been commended for thinking outside the box in the area of equipping journalists with the prerequisite knowledge required to cover and report elections especially now that the 2019 elections are around the corner.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Mr C Don Adinuba made the commendation while declaring open a one day workshop on election covergae and reporting organised by the ABS and sponsored by Fourth foundation.
Mr Adinuba used the occasion to urge journalists to be alive to their responsibility of promoting peace and ensuring factual reportage before, during and after the elections.
ABS correspondent Ngozi Obileri reports that the workshop was attended by 50 broadcast journalists selected from broadcast stations in the South East zone.
The workshop was sponsored by the Ford Foundation.
The workshop facilitators are Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji (INEC REC, Anambra State), Mrs Susan Obi (Zonal Director, South East, NBC), Mr Joe Onuorah (AD, Operations, APCON), Mr Jika Attoh (DMD, ESBS) and Prof. Godson Okafor (Dept of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka).
In his welcome remarks, the MD/CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Nze Uche Nworah said the objective of the workshop is to gather practicing journalists and reporters in South East Nigeria together to share experiences, and have facilitators share knowledge and best practices in election coverage and reporting with the participants.
